Krise William Head M 52 Wisconsin
(Kreie) Elida Wife F 51 Wisconsin
Marion Daughter F 13 Wisconsin
Mildred Daughter F 10 Wisconsin

William's occupation in 1930 is listed as an engineer on a steam railroad. The value of the house is noted to be $2,500.

Marian remembered that as a daughter of a railroad employee, she could travel by train without charge. She probably could travel to Chicago and maybe even to New York where her sister Ruth then lived. She likely traveled by herself.

Many things happened to the Kreie family during the 1930s. The first grandchild, Donald Edward Kreie, was born to Edward and Kathryn on 1 April 1930 in Milwaukee. Sadly, Donald's father Edward died from a brain tumor on 21 April 1933 in Madison, Dane Co., Wisconsin. He was buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Antigo.

Ruth and Nicholas had three children born in the 1930s, including:

  • Janet Mary, born 28January1931, in Antigo
  • Edward John, born 5 September 1933 in Antigo
  • Paul Nicholas, born 6January1939 in Albany, Albany Co., New York

Sadly, Elida died in 1938 at about age 58. Elida's death certificate described her final several years. She apparently suffered a cerebral hemorrhage with hemiplegia on 13 March 1936 and died from myocardial failure and cerebral hemorrhage on 20 January 1938. She died in Antigo, likely at her home. (See Appendix 1 for her obituary.)

Funeral services were held at the home at 1225 2nd Street and at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church. Since the ground was frozen, her body was place in a mausoleum until the following spring when it could be buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Antigo. Elida had been a member of the Ladies Society to B. of L. F. and E. and the Pioneer U. D. Club. (See Appendix 1 for explanations of these organizations.)

Marian and Mildred graduated from Antigo High School in 1935 and 1938 respectively. Marian attended the Theda Clark School of Nursing in Neenah, Wisconsin, graduating in 1938. Marian then moved to Chicago, Illinois, to work as a registered nurse. Marian married Kenneth Lester Garrett on 4 September 1939 in Winterset, Madison Co., Iowa.

William Kreie married Minnie (last name unknown) on 23 September 1939 in North Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac Co., Wisconsin, and they were divorced about four years later. This marriage did not become known to me until 2003. William did not attend his daughter Marian's wedding, perhaps because he himself was getting married soon. My mother Marian never mentioned Minnie.
